2024 On-call Firefighter Recruitment – Kinver Fire Station
Each and every day of the year, on-call Firefighters play a key role in ensuring the safety of those who live in, work in and visit our county. Working alongside their full-time colleagues, they are regularly called upon to tackle a range of incidents including fires, flooding, road traffic collisions and other emergencies.
Between December 2022 and December 2023, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended 837 incidents within the South Staffordshire area, which included 124 road traffic collisions and 24 accidental dwelling fires. This essential frontline service to the community was made possible by the commitment of local people who perform the role of on-call Firefighter.
On-call firefighters are paid employees and respond to the same incidents as full-time colleagues. They attend the station for weekly training sessions and gain many new skills and qualifications as part of the role. At Kinver Fire Station, this training takes place on Thursday evenings between 7pm and 9pm.
On-call firefighters typically provide cover from either their home or place of work and respond to the fire station on receipt of a pager call. The availability of a fire appliance and trained crew here within the village helps to ensure an expeditious response to any emergency which may occur, and I am therefore committed to ensuring that this is the case.
In order to ensure that local resources are available to meet the needs of the community when they are required, a recruitment drive for on-call Firefighters is currently underway at our fire stations in Kinver, Codsall, Penkridge and Brewood.
